UK International undergraduate Scholarship Newcastle University 2027
You do not apply for this scholarship. If you are an international undergraduate with an offer from Newcastle University, you are considered automatically for a Vice-Chancellor’s UK International undergraduate Scholarship worth £7,000 per academic year, credited to your tuition fee account for the full length of your course. What you do control is how early you apply through UCAS: for 2027 entry, the equal consideration deadline is January 13, 2027.
Pakistan is on the list of countries whose residents are considered, so Pakistani applicants qualify on the same terms as everyone else, as long as they meet the residence rule explained below. One thing to know first: the Newcastle page you may find in a search still shows the 2026 entry round when we checked on October 10, 2026. The 2027/28 terms in this guide come from Newcastle’s regulations document for 2027/28 entry.

How You Get the Award
- Apply through UCAS for an undergraduate course at the Newcastle city centre campus, by January 13, 2027. Newcastle says awards may be given early in the cycle, so early applications are encouraged.
- Receive an offer. If Newcastle makes you an offer by March 31, 2027, you must accept it as your Firm or Insurance choice by May 3, 2027.
- Wait to be assessed. You are considered for the scholarship as part of your course application. Newcastle does not ask for a separate form.
- Register in 2027/28. To receive the award you must become a registered, full-time student on an award-bearing undergraduate programme in 2027/28. The award cannot be deferred.
Applicants who come through Clearing are also eligible. As of October 10, 2026, the UCAS deadline is about three months away.
Who Qualifies
You must be assessed as international for fee purposes, have applied through UCAS, and have an offer for your chosen course at the city centre campus. You must also be domiciled in one of the listed countries or regions. For this round the list includes Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Nigeria, Kenya, Malaysia, the UAE and the USA, among others, and all EU member states. Applicants domiciled in Turkey are considered only if they are self-funding.
Domiciled has a strict meaning here. Newcastle says you must have lived predominantly in the listed country during the last three years. It treats your permanent country of residence as where you ordinarily live, not a country where you are only living to study full time. A Pakistani student who spent the last three years studying in another country, such as at a boarding school, should check which country Newcastle will treat as their domicile before assuming the award applies. Newcastle’s pages describe no Pakistan-specific route beyond this residence rule.
Who Cannot Receive It
- Pathway students moving up from the Newcastle University International Study Centre. They are considered for separate NU ISC awards.
- Applicants for the MB BS, BDS and Dental Therapy BSc courses.
- Students already registered and studying an undergraduate degree at Newcastle. Awards are not made retrospectively.
- Applicants first assessed as international whose fee status changes to home, before or during the degree. Newcastle says any offer is then withdrawn.
- Students repeating courses, study abroad and exchange students, and students funded through partnerships between Newcastle and partner organisations.
- Fully sponsored students, meaning a funder pays full tuition before any scholarships are deducted. Newcastle can suspend payment and recover money already paid.
Newcastle also says it will not confirm a scholarship until you meet every condition of your offer, even if you are still admitted to study there.
Newcastle’s rule on other scholarships is easy to misread. You may apply for more than one award, but you cannot keep a Vice-Chancellor’s International Scholarship together with Vice-Chancellor’s Excellence, GREAT, Elite Sports, Spärck AI, International Family Discount, Alumni Progression, faculty or school scholarships, or any NU ISC award. If you win this one and one of those, you get the higher one, and the lower one goes to another applicant. Newcastle says the list is not complete. So treat the £7,000 as a floor, and check the regulations for every other award you apply for.
Rules After You Receive It
- Renewal: the award renews every year and depends on academic progression.
- Student ambassador: you are expected to help the international recruitment team from time to time, for example by joining presentations, giving testimonials or writing blogs. Newcastle says this should not normally exceed 8 hours per semester, and it may use your name, nationality and course in this work.
- Alumni contact: your details are passed to Newcastle’s Advancement Team, which may contact you after graduation.
- Changes: Newcastle reserves the right to vary awards, and its decisions are final, with no appeals.
Declining Newcastle as your Firm or Insurance choice, deferring your place to a later year, or finding that your fee status becomes home status all end the scholarship, and the last one also withdraws the offer. Newcastle also says the award can be stopped and recovered if you turn out to be fully sponsored. Check each of these before you accept.
