Chinese Government Scholarship Huazhong University 2027

Chinese Government Scholarship Huazhong University 2027

The Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST) page for the Chinese Government Scholarship 2027 lists three programs and three different places to apply, and one wrong choice can waste your fee or your whole cycle. Type A goes through the dispatching authority in your home country, and HUST says not to apply to HUST or the China Scholarship Council for it. Type B, which covers the Chinese University Program and the Silk Road Program, is applied for directly through HUST’s online system. For Pakistani students the key fact is that Pakistan is one of ten countries named for the Silk Road Program.

Type B applications opened on October 15, 2026. They close on February 25, 2027 for master’s and doctoral applicants, and on April 30, 2027 for bachelor’s applicants to the Silk Road Program. One honest caveat comes first. HUST has published its 2027 overview, but we could not find a detailed 2027 guide. The Chinese University Program guide on its site is the 2025 edition and the FAQ is the 2026 edition. This guide takes dates, fees and programs from the 2027 page and uses older pages only for steps and documents, labelling each of those points.

Which HUST Scholarship Route Fits You?

Route Who it is for Where you apply Window and cost
Type A: Bilateral Program Applicants for undergraduate, postgraduate and scholar programs Dispatching authorities in your home country, such as the education office of a Chinese embassy or consulate or a Department of Education Late November to early April, and details vary by country. No application fee
Type B: Chinese University Program Postgraduate applicants only, with an excellent academic record and strong potential HUST online application system October 15, 2026 to February 25, 2027. Agency number 10487
Type B: Silk Road Program Bachelor, master and doctoral applicants from 10 named countries, in 5 named specialties HUST online application system October 15, 2026 to February 25, 2027 for master and doctoral, and to April 30, 2027 for bachelor. 800 CNY, non-refundable

HUST explains Type A and Type B in its FAQ. Type A programs are run by authorities outside Chinese universities, such as the Bilateral Program, the EU Window Program, the MOFCOM Scholarship and the Youth of Excellence Scheme of China Program. Type B programs are run by Chinese universities, which select and enrol the students, so you can apply to the university directly. The FAQ also says the China Scholarship Council does not accept individual applications for any Chinese Government Scholarship program, so do not send yours there.

Silk Road Program: The Route That Names Pakistan

HUST lists ten countries for this program: Russia, Malaysia, Mongolia, Laos, Indonesia, Cambodia, Thailand, Bangladesh, Vietnam and Pakistan. It also limits the program to five specialties, so check your subject before anything else.

Level Specialties Teaching language Language requirement on the page
Bachelor Architecture; Software Engineering Chinese only HSK 4 passed, with a score of 180 or more
Master and doctoral Computer Science and Technology; Civil Engineering; Chemistry English Not stated for this program on the 2027 page

The 2027 page does not say how many Silk Road places exist, and it does not list the benefits for this program. For its Chinese University Program, HUST describes a full scholarship (see the next section), but we will not assume the Silk Road terms are identical. Ask HUST before you rely on that.

What the Scholarship Covers

HUST’s Chinese University Program guide describes a full scholarship that covers tuition waiver, accommodation, a stipend and medical insurance. That guide is the 2025 edition, and it gives no stipend amounts, so we give none either. The 2027 overview page does not repeat the benefits, so treat this list as the best available description and confirm it for 2027.

Eligibility: What the Newest HUST Pages Say

  • Academic level: HUST asks for outstanding academic performance and potential. Master’s applicants must already hold a bachelor’s degree and be under 35. Doctoral applicants must hold a master’s degree and be under 40. Both degrees must be equivalent to the related Chinese degrees. These age limits come from the 2025 Chinese University Program guide.
  • Grades: the 2025 guide accepts GPA of 3.0 out of 4, 3.75 out of 5, or 75 percent, and says other equivalent systems are accepted. The 2026 FAQ says 70 out of 100. HUST’s own pages disagree, so aim for the higher figure.
  • English-medium programs: TOEFL 80 or above, GRE General 310 or above, IELTS 6.0 or above, another certificate HUST accepts, or a previous degree taught in English (2025 guide).
  • Chinese-medium programs: HSK 4 with 180 or more for science, engineering and medicine; HSK 5 with 180 or more for economics, management, literature, education, arts and law; HSK 5 with 200 or more for programs at Tongji Hospital and Union Hospital; or a previous degree taught in Chinese (2025 guide).
  • Silk Road bachelor’s applicants: HSK 4 with 180 or more, and Chinese-medium study only (2027 page).
Reality Check

Three HUST pages give three different dates and two different fees. The 2025 guide says to apply between November 1, 2024 and February 28, 2025, the 2026 FAQ says October 15, 2025 to March 1, 2026, and the 2027 page says October 15, 2026 to February 25, 2027. The fee was 600 CNY (or 100 USD) in the older guide and is 800 CNY for the Silk Road Program on the 2027 page. The pattern is that windows shift every year, so a number copied from last year’s guide can be wrong. Where HUST’s 2027 page and an older guide disagree, this article follows the 2027 page.

How to Apply

Type A: through your home authority

Apply to the dispatching authority named in your country, and follow its notice. HUST says there is no application fee, and that applicants should not apply to HUST or the China Scholarship Council. A pre-admission letter is preferred. To get one, log in to the HUST Online Application System and click the option for the pre-admission letter only. A prospective supervisor’s acceptance letter can also be submitted to the authority as the pre-admission document. The Agency number comes from the authority, not from HUST.

Type B: directly through HUST

  • Log in to the HUST Online Application System and choose to apply for admission. For the Silk Road Program, HUST says the results of academic review, scholarship nomination and admission come by email.
  • Submit academic documents, pay the application fee, and wait for academic review. In the 2025 Chinese University Program guide, you took an online language test, then paid the fee, and passing applicants received a pre-admission letter.
  • Complete the Chinese Government Scholarship system step. The 2025 guide then asked for the pre-admission letter and other documents to be uploaded on the CSC information system, under Type B and agency number 10487, before non-academic documents went to HUST. Check whether this step still applies for 2027.
  • Do not mail hard copies. HUST’s FAQ says to submit the online application directly.

Documents to Prepare

HUST’s 2025 Chinese University Program guide lists the following. Treat it as the best available checklist until HUST posts a 2027 version.

  • An official certificate of your highest education, or an official enrollment document from your current school. Documents in a third language must be notarized in Chinese or English.
  • Transcripts.
  • A personal statement explaining your understanding of China, why you want to study at HUST, and what you expect.
  • A personal introduction video of 60 seconds or less, in English or Chinese.
  • A CV, including a publication list if you have one.
  • A study plan or research proposal of more than 1,000 characters or words, with a title, abstract, introduction, literature review, methodology, significance and references.
  • A writing sample closely related to your field.
  • A language proficiency certificate.
  • Two recommendation letters signed by former professors or associate professors.
  • An acceptance letter from a prospective HUST supervisor, if the program list requires it.
  • A passport, a physical examination form, a police-issued certificate of no criminal record, and the Application Form for Chinese Government Scholarship.

Key Dates

Item Date
Type B applications open October 15, 2026
Type B deadline for master and doctoral applicants February 25, 2027
Silk Road deadline for bachelor applicants April 30, 2027
Type A application window Late November to early April, set by each home authority

The 2027 page gives no time of day or time zone for these deadlines. As of October 10, 2026, the master and doctoral deadline is about 20 weeks away, which is our own calculation from the dates above.

Mistakes That Waste a Scholarship Cycle

Applying to HUST for a Type A scholarship, which HUST says not to do. Sending an application to the China Scholarship Council, which HUST says does not accept individual applications. Mailing paper copies when HUST wants the online application only. Paying the fee for the wrong program, since both the 600 CNY and the 800 CNY figures are non-refundable. And copying a deadline from an old guide, because the window changes every year.

Notes for Pakistani Applicants

What Pakistani Applicants Should Know

Pakistan is on HUST’s Silk Road list, so Pakistani applicants can apply for Architecture or Software Engineering at bachelor level, or for Computer Science and Technology, Civil Engineering or Chemistry at master’s and doctoral level. For Type A, HUST says to apply through the dispatching authority in your home country and to ask it for the Agency number, but it does not name the Pakistani authority. Several documents, such as the police certificate and the physical examination form, take time to arrange, so start them before the window gets close. HUST’s pages do not mention HEC attestation, and we found no Pakistan-specific route beyond the Silk Road listing.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I send my application to the China Scholarship Council?

No. HUST says CSC cannot accept individual applications for any Chinese Government Scholarship program and tells applicants not to submit to it.

Is there an application fee?

For Type A, HUST says there is no application fee. For the Silk Road Program, the fee is 800 CNY and non-refundable. The older Chinese University Program guide listed 600 CNY or 100 USD, so confirm the current figure.

Do I need to post my documents to HUST?

No. HUST’s FAQ says to submit the online application directly and not to mail hard copies.

What if I am applying for a Chinese-taught bachelor program?

For the Silk Road Program, bachelor study is in Chinese only, and applicants should have passed HSK 4 with 180 or more.
