The University of Glasgow’s MSc Advanced Nursing Science 2027

The University of Glasgow’s MSc Advanced Nursing Science is a 12-month, full-time master’s degree for graduate nurses. It is taught on the Gilmorehill campus and starts in September. For 2027-28 entry, the international tuition fee is £31,515. The first international application round runs from 1 October to 5 November 2026.

Pakistani nurses can apply. Pakistan is on the nationality list for two Glasgow tuition discounts that cover this programme: the World Changers Glasgow Scholarship (£5,000, applied automatically) and the GREAT Scholarships 2027 (£10,000, three awards in total). This guide covers entry rules, fees, deadlines, documents, and the places where applicants can lose money or time. Everything below was checked against the official Glasgow pages on October 6, 2026.

What You Study and Where It Leads

Teaching is by lectures, workshops and seminars, supported by an online learning platform and digital resources. Six core courses make up the degree: Applying Research Approaches in Health Care, Education for Professional Practice, Independent Project, Informing Practice through the Evidence Base, Leadership in Contemporary Health Care, and Research Approaches in Health Care.

You can also take one 20-credit optional course, either Acute and Critical Care or Global Health Challenges. If you focus your assignments on that topic, you may earn a named award in that area.

Glasgow says many graduates stay in clinical practice and move into senior or specialist roles. Others go into education as lecturers, tutors or clinical trainers. The page also notes that more graduates are returning for PhD study.

Entry Requirements

  • A 2.2 honours degree in Nursing, or a non-UK equivalent.
  • At least 6 months of clinical nursing experience after you qualified, shown in a CV.
  • English language proof, if you are from a non-majority English-speaking country (see below).

Applicants with lower grades may still be accepted if they have significant relevant clinical nursing experience. Glasgow does not say what counts as significant, so ask the programme contact if your grades are close to the line.

For English, the programme accepts many tests. The most common is IELTS Academic, with 6.5 overall and no part below 6.0. IELTS General Training is not accepted. A test must be within 2 years and 5 months of the programme start date, and you must meet the level with a single test, not by combining scores. Instead of a test, Glasgow accepts a degree taught in a majority English-speaking country, or a UK-awarded degree taught at a campus outside the UK, if it was completed within 6 years of the programme start. Its pre-sessional English courses are another route.

One gap is worth noting. The page asks for a non-UK equivalent of a UK honours degree in Nursing but does not explain how overseas nursing degrees are compared. If your degree title or length is unusual, email the programme contact before you pay anything.

Tuition Fees and Deposit

Tuition for 2027-28 is £31,515 for International & EU students and £8,728 for Home & RUK students. These are full-time fees for this MSc. Fee status is decided by Glasgow, so check your own status before you plan a budget around either number.

International & EU applicants must pay a £2,000 deposit to secure a place. Glasgow lists when it will and will not refund it, and the list matters because of the scholarships below.

Deposit Warning

Glasgow says the deposit will not be refunded if you decide not to attend because of personal financial constraints or an unsuccessful scholarship application. It says deposits will be refunded if you do not meet the conditions of your offer, or if you ask within 14 days of paying. Read the full refund terms on the official programme page before you pay.

Scholarships Pakistani Nurses Can Look At

The programme page lists many funding options. Two of them name Pakistan as an eligible country and include Advanced Nursing Science in their programme lists.

Scholarship Value What the official page says
World Changers Glasgow Scholarship £5,000 tuition fee discount Automatic for eligible applicants for September 2027 or January 2028 entry. You must be a national of an eligible country (Pakistan is listed), have international fee status, and be enrolled on an eligible programme. No separate application. It is withdrawn if an external sponsor funds you fully.
GREAT Scholarships 2027 £10,000 tuition fee discount Three awards across all eligible countries. You need a passport from an eligible country and international fee status, and you must have applied, accepted a place and met every offer condition by the deadline. You cannot hold other funding. Closing date: 30 April 2027, 11:45 AM UK time. The page says the scholarship will open shortly and offers a way to register interest.

Glasgow says its scholarships cannot be combined, and that if you are offered more than one, the lower-value award is removed. So the GREAT award would replace the World Changers discount, not add to it. As our own arithmetic on tuition only: £31,515 minus £5,000 is £26,515, and £31,515 minus £10,000 is £21,515. These are not official figures.

Research Note

The GREAT rule that you must have met all offer conditions by 30 April 2027 changes how early you should apply. Round 4 closes on 25 March 2027, but its decisions come by 6 May 2027, which is after the GREAT closing date. By our reading, only offers from Rounds 1 to 3 (decision by 8 April 2027 at the latest) can reach that point, and even then you would have about three weeks to meet conditions such as your English test. Glasgow does not state this timing. Confirm it with the scholarships team.

One more check: the GREAT page says Advanced Nursing Science is eligible, but a shorter copy of the page can appear in search results. Treat the live page as the final word, and contact the scholarships team through the page if you are unsure.

How to Apply and Deadlines

Applications are online only. Check the entry requirements first, then upload these documents:

  • Your official degree certificate, if you have finished your degree.
  • Your official academic transcript, showing subjects and grades.
  • Official English translations of both.
  • One reference letter on headed paper. Glasgow usually expects an academic referee, but a current employer may be accepted if an academic reference is not possible.
  • Proof of English ability, if English is not your first language.
  • A CV showing your clinical nursing experience.
  • A copy of the photo page of your passport.

Once you start the form you have 42 days to submit it. You can save it and return as often as you like, so you can add your final transcript or test result later. Glasgow also says each person may apply to a programme only once a year, so do not submit a rushed first attempt.

These are the international application rounds for September 2027 entry:

Round Application window Decision by
Round 1 1 October 2026 to 5 November 2026 18 December 2026
Round 2 6 November 2026 to 17 December 2026 3 March 2027

Round 6 14 May 2027 to 8 July 2027 29 July 2027

As of the day we checked, Round 1 is open. UK applicants have a single date, 24 August 2027, which does not apply to international applicants.

Information for Pakistani Applicants

What Pakistani Applicants Should Know

Pakistan is named on the nationality lists for both the World Changers and GREAT scholarships, so Pakistani nurses can be considered for either. The programme page has no Pakistan-specific route, such as a list of accepted Pakistani nursing qualifications or a nursing council requirement, and we did not invent one. Before you pay the £2,000 deposit, email the programme contact with your degree title and years of study, and confirm your English test plan.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I get both the World Changers and GREAT scholarships?

Glasgow says its discounts and scholarships cannot be combined. If you are offered more than one, the lower-value award is removed, so a GREAT award would replace the World Changers discount.

Do I need IELTS?

Not always. The page accepts many English tests, a degree taught in a majority English-speaking country, a UK degree taught outside the UK, or a Glasgow pre-sessional course. If your degree fits none of these, plan on a test or a pre-sessional course.

How long do I have to finish the online application?

You have 42 days from the day you start. You can save the form and come back to add documents.
