Nanjing Medical University MBBS Scholarship 2027 in China

Nanjing Medical University MBBS Scholarship 2027 in China

Search results for “MBBS scholarship in China” can make Nanjing Medical University (NMU) sound like a free ride. The university’s own admission notice says otherwise. Tuition is CNY 34,000 a year, and the awards listed on the same page run from CNY 5,000 up to a full-tuition award of CNY 34,000. This is a fee-paying medical degree with scholarship options, not a fully funded programme.

This guide uses NMU’s 2026 admission notice, the latest one the university had published when we checked on October 30, 2026. A 2027 notice was not online yet. Below we explain what that means for your planning, what the fees and awards look like, who can apply, how the process works, and what Pakistani applicants should check with the Pakistan Medical & Dental Council (PM&DC) before paying any deposit.

2027 Notice Not Published Yet

NMU’s undergraduate admissions list showed only the 2026 notice, dated 15 January 2026, when we checked. That round took applications from 1 January to 30 June 2026, so it is closed. Every figure below comes from the 2026 notice and may change for 2027. Check the official page again before you spend money on tests, translations or deposits.

What It Costs and What the Awards Are Worth

Start with the fixed costs. These are the amounts the 2026 notice lists, all in Chinese yuan (CNY). We have not converted them to rupees because exchange rates move.

Cost item Amount (CNY) What the notice says
Tuition 34,000 per year Charged yearly
Registration fee 500 Listed without a period
Insurance 600 per year Charged yearly
Accommodation, Jiangning campus 6,000 per person per year Double room
Accommodation, Wutai campus 6,000 to 8,000 per person per year Double room 8,000; three-bedroom 6,800; four-bedroom 6,000
Pre-admission deposit 13,000 Non-refundable. Paid after you receive the pre-admission letter
Utilities Actual usage Charged monthly

The notice does not say whether the deposit is credited against your tuition. Ask the admissions office before you pay it. The awards are listed in the table below. The last column is our own arithmetic: the award subtracted from one year of tuition. It is tuition only and is not an official figure.

Award Value (CNY) Tuition left after the award (our arithmetic)
Jiangsu Government Scholarship To be decided Cannot be calculated
Nanjing Government Scholarship 10,000 24,000
NMU Full Tuition Scholarship 34,000 0
NMU Half Tuition Scholarship 17,000 17,000
NMU 1/4 Tuition Scholarship 8,500 25,500
General Entrance Scholarship of NMU 5,000 29,000

The two government awards depend on seats decided by the government, not by the university. The notice also shows a percentage beside the NMU awards (5%, 10%, 15% and 70%) without saying what it means. It does not say whether an award is paid once or every year, and it describes no separate scholarship application.

Before You Apply

Put two questions to the admissions office in writing: what do the percentages beside the NMU awards mean, and does each award repeat every year? The notice answers neither, and the difference between CNY 5,000 once and CNY 5,000 a year changes your six-year budget. Keep the reply, because it is the only version of the answer you can point to later.

Who Can Apply (2026 Criteria)

  • You hold a high school diploma or a higher equivalent qualification. If you apply with a pre-graduation certificate, the final graduation certificate is due no later than registration.
  • You are under 25. Applicants under 18 need university approval and documents such as a notarized guardian certificate.
  • You are a non-Chinese citizen with a valid ordinary foreign passport and no criminal record abroad. Separate rules apply to applicants of Chinese descent who hold foreign nationality.
  • Your results meet one of the transcript routes below.
  • You can prove your English level.
  • You have taken the China Scholastic Competency Assessment (CSCA), with Mathematics and Chemistry as compulsory subjects.
Transcript route Requirement
High school transcript GPA of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale or equivalent. Subjects must include physics or mathematics, biology and chemistry
GCE A-level All subjects at grade C or above
GED Total at least 600, and at least 150 in every subject

The notice lists a further route for Indian state and central boards. It gives no conversion for Pakistani results such as FSc percentages, so ask admissions how your marks will be converted before you rely on the 3.0 figure.

English proof Minimum
IELTS 6.0 overall, with at least 5 in each section
TOEFL 85 overall, with at least 15 in each section
Duolingo 115
Other Proof that your high school taught in English. Predicted scores are not accepted

The notice also lists “native or official language is English” as proof. It does not say how that applies to Pakistani applicants, so confirm in writing before you skip a test. The CSCA is run by the China Scholarship Council, and your score report must come from the past 12 months. If your school track did not include mathematics, plan early, because CSCA mathematics is compulsory.

How the Process Works

  1. Apply online through NMU’s application system and upload all materials.
  2. Document review. The admissions office checks your file.
  3. Online interview. If you pass the first review, NMU emails the interview time. If you cannot attend, email admissions to arrange another date. Declining both dates ends your eligibility.
  4. Pre-admission letter. Applicants who pass the assessment receive it.
  5. Deposit. Pay the non-refundable CNY 13,000 within the period stated in the letter, or the admission may be cancelled.
  6. Official admission letter and JW202 form. NMU sends both after it receives the deposit.
  7. X visa. Apply at a Chinese embassy or consulate with the official letter and the JW202 form.
  8. Registration. Register on the date in the Registration Guide, which NMU emailed in July in the 2026 round. Late registration means automatic disqualification.

One rule deserves a second read. The notice says the deposit is not refunded if you give up the place for personal reasons, or if you are disqualified at registration because you did not meet the university’s requirements.

Pakistani Applicants: Check PM&DC Rules Before Paying a Deposit

A degree from China is only useful at home if Pakistan lets you practise with it. PM&DC publishes its own notices on this, and three of them matter here.

Pakistan Check: What PM&DC Says

MDCAT. A PM&DC notice from October 2026 says the Council decided on 14 September 2026 to drop the MDCAT pass as a prerequisite for Pakistani students seeking admission to foreign medical and dental institutions. Older blog posts may still say it is mandatory. National Registration Examination (NRE). A PM&DC notice dated 31 July 2026 repeats that only Pakistani nationals whose primary medical qualification comes from a foreign institution recognized by the Education Commission on Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) can sit the NRE, subject to other requirements. The notice was written about Afghanistan, but it states the general policy. We could not confirm NMU’s status under this test, so check it yourself and ask PM&DC before you pay. Provisional registration. A December 2025 notice says foreign medical students and graduates cannot do a house job, internship, clinical training or observership in Pakistan without PM&DC provisional registration.

We did not verify HEC attestation, foreign office routing, or visa steps specific to Pakistan, so this guide states none. NMU’s notice asks for notarized copies of diplomas and transcripts and a no-criminal-record certificate, and it does not describe any Pakistan-specific route. PM&DC lists its current announcements on its public announcements page.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

✗Treating the 2026 fees, ages and score cut-offs as final for 2027. The university has not published the new notice.
✗Paying the CNY 13,000 deposit before confirming PM&DC recognition and the award questions. The notice says it is not refunded if you withdraw.
✗Submitting predicted English scores. The notice does not accept them.
✗Leaving the CSCA late. Mathematics and Chemistry are compulsory, and the report must be less than 12 months old.
✗Skipping the interview. Declining both offered dates ends your eligibility.
✗Assuming a scholarship means free study. Only the full-tuition award covers tuition, and insurance, rooms and utilities are separate.

If You Are Comparing Funding Options

NMU’s awards are partial and tuition-based. If you are also looking at postgraduate funding abroad, our guides to the University of Helsinki Scholarships in Finland 2027, the ETH Zurich Excellence Scholarship Switzerland 2027 and the University of Sydney International Research Scholarships 2027 show how other programmes describe waivers and living support.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the NMU MBBS programme fully funded?

No. The 2026 notice lists tuition of CNY 34,000 a year plus separate costs for insurance, registration and accommodation. Only one award type is described as covering the full tuition, and the notice does not explain how awards are allocated.

Can I apply for the 2027 intake now?

The 2026 round closed on 30 June 2026, and no 2027 notice was online when we checked. We do not know the 2027 dates, so check NMU’s undergraduate programmes page for the new notice.

Is there an interview?

In the 2026 round, yes. Applicants who passed the document review took an online interview, and the result decided whether they received a pre-admission letter.
